WHAT IT IS

A single downward-sliding, saturated womp — the audio embodiment of staring into the middle distance after someone says something indefensible. Short, low, and profoundly unimpressed.

THE LORE

“Bruh” predates the internet by decades — it's been documented in Black American English since at least the early 20th century — but the internet gave it a second career as a one-word review of any situation. The “bruh moment” meme of the late 2010s formalized it: some events simply demand the word, said flatly, with dead eyes.

The sound version needed to capture that exact energy: pitch falling like your expectations, texture like a synthesizer sighing. We built ours as a detuned saw-wave slide with the top end filtered off, because disappointment lives in the low mids.

• Responding to a take so bad it doesn't deserve words.
• The moment in a gameplay clip where the plan falls apart.

HOW WE BUILT IT

Two sawtooth waves detuned ±7 cents slide from 215 Hz down to 88 Hz over about half a second, with a sine wave an octave below following the same fall for weight. The whole stack runs through a 900 Hz low-pass filter — killing the brightness is what makes it sound resigned rather than aggressive — and then light tanh drive glues it together.
