Three rapid laser zaps, each one a steep frequency dive with a crack of noise at the trigger. Small, fast, and scientifically proven to make pointing finger-guns feel armed.

THE LORE

“Pew pew” is onomatopoeia for a sound that doesn't exist — real lasers are silent — invented collectively by sci-fi sound designers of the mid-20th century. The recipe they converged on (a sharp burst sliding rapidly down in pitch) became so canonical that children now produce it unprompted while pointing finger-guns, which may be the most successful sound-design brief ever executed.

Internet usage is pure whimsy: “pew pew” deflates aggression by replacing it with toy-grade weaponry. You don't attack someone with pew pew; you boop them at range. Ours synthesizes the archetype with square-wave dives, tuned to be more Saturday-morning cartoon than military hardware.

HOW WE BUILT IT

Each zap is a square wave diving from 2300 Hz to 240 Hz in 140 milliseconds — the steepness of that dive is what reads as “energy weapon” — with a 10 ms crack of high-passed noise at the front for the trigger snap. Three zaps fire 70 ms apart, and a short, quiet delay adds just enough sci-fi corridor reverb.
