BONK
Go to horny jail. Do not pass go.
WHAT IT IS
A short, woody thock — the sound of a cartoon mallet meeting a deserving skull. One hit, no echo, maximum jurisprudence.
THE LORE
“Bonk” crystallized as a meme around 2020 with the “go to horny jail” format: a doodled dog (a Cheems-adjacent Shiba) swinging a baseball bat at anyone whose reply was getting a little too enthusiastic. The bonk is the internet's lightest-weight justice system — a single comic strike that sentences the offender and ends the discussion.
The percussive “bonk” itself is pure cartoon physics, descended from decades of animation foley where a hollow woodblock hit means head trauma played for laughs. Ours is synthesized from two falling sine waves and a click of noise — no woodblocks, no Shibas, all original.
WHEN TO DEPLOY IT
- Moderating the group chat with a single, decisive strike.
- Punctuating clumsy moments in gameplay clips — wall, doorframe, own teammate.
- Replying to anyone being weird on main.
- Self-bonking. Accountability matters.
HOW WE BUILT IT
The thock is a sine wave dropping fast from 640 Hz to 340 Hz over 160 ms with an aggressive decay — that rapid pitch fall is what your ear reads as “impact on something hollow.” A second, lower sine (180 Hz) adds skull, er, body, and a 12-millisecond snap of high-passed noise supplies the attack. Light saturation rounds it off. Total runtime: about a fifth of a second, which is the whole joke.
Like every sound on gyatdamn.com, this one is 100% original synthesized audio — no samples, no ripped clips. Read why we build everything from raw waveforms.
