67
exclamation · always “six-SEVEN,” never “sixty-seven” · 2024 → now
also seen as: 6-7, six seven
the short answer
A number shouted for reasons no adult has successfully explained — meaning roughly 'so-so,' or more accurately, nothing.
WHAT IT MEANS
67 — pronounced “six-SEVEN,” never “sixty-seven” — is an exclamation shouted in response to the numbers 6 or 7 appearing anywhere in the environment: a math problem, a jersey, a clock, a page number. It's accompanied by a two-handed gesture, palms up, juggling invisible weights — which supplies its closest approximation of a meaning: “so-so,” “kinda this, kinda that.”
But the honest answer is that it means nothing, and the meaninglessness is load-bearing. It's a participation ritual: one kid says the number, every kid in range completes the ceremony, and the classroom briefly stops functioning. It works because it's contagious, it's forbidden, and adults demanding an explanation are handed one that explains nothing — a perfect self-sustaining machine.
WHERE IT CAME FROM
The phrase comes from “Doot Doot (6 7)” by Philadelphia rapper Skrilla, released in late 2024, whose hook loops the numbers. The track spread through basketball edit culture — attaching heavily to 6'7" players, most famously LaMelo Ball — and the hand-juggling gesture fused to it somewhere in the TikTok bloodstream during 2025.
It became the defining school-age catchphrase of 2025: banned by teachers, chanted at assemblies, and crowned Dictionary.com's Word of the Year — the institution openly admitting it was selecting a term whose cultural force didn't depend on having a definition. A number becoming Word of the Year is either the end of something or the beginning of something, and nobody can tell which, which is extremely 67 of it.
HOW TO USE IT
Teacher: “Turn to page sixty-sev—” The room, as one: “SIX SEVEN!”
Correct — the natural habitat. The lesson is over.
“How was the movie?” “Like a 6…7.” (the hands begin juggling)
Correct — the rare semi-sincere use: mid, but ceremonial.
Saying “sixty-seven.”
Incorrect — the pronunciation is the entire password. Six-SEVEN.
Being 6'7" and simply standing there while the room erupts.
Advanced — passive activation. The tall carry this burden forever.
VIBE CHECK: IS IT STILL COOL?
Peaking — the reigning champion of pure brainrot as of this writing, with Word of the Year hardware to prove it. History says the crown is heavy and brief: today's 67 is tomorrow's fanum tax. Enjoy the noise while it's live; archive footage is being recorded for the documentary.
Status: 📈 PEAKING — everywhere right now. Last reviewed August 2026.
