WHAT IT IS

A cartoon slide whistle rocketing upward and hanging at the top with a wobbly vibrato, plus a whisper of breath so it sounds blown rather than generated. The official sound of unearned optimism.

THE LORE

The slide whistle has been comedy infrastructure since vaudeville and golden-age cartoons, where an ascending slide meant something (or someone) going up in defiance of physics and good judgment. It's inherently unserious — no orchestra ever used one sincerely — which is exactly why it survived a century.

“To the moon” gave the ascent new meaning in 2021, when retail-trading communities adopted the phrase (with rocket emoji) as shorthand for wildly optimistic price targets. The joke fused: the slide whistle's cartoon climb became the perfect soundtrack for optimism unsupported by fundamentals. Ours is a sine-wave slide tuned to maximum cartoon.

WHEN TO DEPLOY IT

  • Charting anything that's going up: portfolio, follower count, laundry pile.
  • Jump edits — sync the whistle to any airborne moment.
  • Escorting a spider outside with unwarranted ceremony.
  • The moment your delivery driver is finally heading in the right direction.

HOW WE BUILT IT

A sine wave slides from 260 Hz to 1250 Hz over half a second — the acceleration curve is linear-in-pitch, which is what reads as “whistle” rather than “siren” — then holds at the top for 300 ms with a wide 7 Hz vibrato, like the whistler is running out of confidence. A faint bed of high-passed breath noise makes it read as a physical instrument.

Like every sound on gyatdamn.com, this one is 100% original synthesized audio — no samples, no ripped clips. Read why we build everything from raw waveforms.
